Our Mission:

The Marriage Education and Resource Center (MERCY) is a Christian-based organization that is a division of the LIGHT Center for Family Enrichment http://www.lighthouselagrange.org/

Our office is located at 7204 Hwy. 329 - 2nd Floor in Crestwood, KY 40014.  Our e-mail address is:  pdhud9@aol.com.    Our phone number is:  (502)  939-0121. Our free monthly workshops are normally held at Baptist Hospital Northeast, 1025 New Moody Lane, in LaGrange, KY.  Click on "Upcoming Marriage Events" for complete details.

The purpose of MERCY is to help couples have healthy and successful marriages.

Our objectives are:

  1. Increase the quality of Marriage Preparation.
  2. Increase the number of couples who participate in Marriage Enrichment programs.
  3. Help couples in troubled marriages seek and participate in divorce-intervention programs offered in the community.
  4. Serve as an information exchange and clearinghouse to help couples locate marriage educational programs.

In addition, MERCY provides marriage education to individuals and offers workshops to groups of couples to help them grow in their marital relationship.

The center also assists churches and community organizations who want to add or participate in marriage-related programs.

Community marriage courses/programs MERCY will be offering and others that we are aware of, will be posted on this website under the Upcoming Marriage Events section. This way individuals, pastors, therapists and community leaders will be able to locate and/or refer couples to the program(s) which best meets the needs of couples.

You might think of MERCY as a school for couples who want to make their marriages the best they can be.

MERCY is a non-profit organization. This is a volunteer organization funded through donations, which are tax-deductible.

Not all posts listed in the Upcoming Marriage Events section align specifically with the views of The Marriage Education and Resource Center (MERCY).

(Note: The Marriage Education and Resource Center does not offer therapy/counseling, but can offer referrals based on needs.)

Why Marriage Education?

·          Over 50% of new marriages and 65% of second  marriages fail.

·          More than 200,000 new marriages each year end prior to the couple’s second anniversary.

·          Co-habitation has increased 72% in ten years.

·          Divorce devastates kids. The amount of pain and destruction to a family is incalculable.

·          57% of divorces are due to poor communication and conflict-resolution skills.

·          Less than 20% of marriages receive sufficient pre-marital preparation.

·          With three-fourths of America’s marriages taking place in houses of worship, churches have a great opportunity to help couples, in all stages of their relationship, to achieve a more God-centered marriage.

·      Pastors need help.  They cannot do it all.

Benefits of Marriage Education

  •  Couples will receive in-depth preparation for a lifetime, not just a wedding.
  • Pastors and church leaders will have more time for other ministries.
  • Marriages will be strengthened. Consequently, entire families, as well as the church body, will be healthier.
  • Marriage education provides a much needed outreach service to the community.
  •  An educational format is less expensive and perceived as less threatening and confrontational than traditional therapy.
